Varoufakis is correct, the EU does hate democracy.

However, there will be a negotiation even if it ends with the UK walking away and stopping its EU payments.

The gloves are now publicly off, and Britain will if pushed into a corner use the nuclear option of stopping membership payments and exiting immediately.

Don't believe the hype coming from Brussels, this media avalanche is the EU's style of "negotiation".

It will fail, but it will improve Theresa May's standing in the General Election.

Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?

By all accounts, if we are to believe the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Theresa May's dinner with Juncker last week was a tad "testy".

It seems that May did not say things that the EU wanted to hear, as such the EU's version of the evening was leaked to the FAZ (as is the norm for the Gnomes of Brussels when people, or countries, do things that the Gnomes don't like).

The fact is, Theresa May knew full well that it would leak and played her hand accordingly. Juncker and the EU may well be puffing themselves up with wounded pride about May's stance (eg wanting to sort out the status and rights of EU citizens by June) but like it or not that is the stance she is going to take. The EU can reject it at its peril.
